Viewing the film, Inspirations, allows you to explore the work habits and styles of seven artists. Using the web sites, you will view spectacular art found in this city. Researching an artist of your choice, then reading The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again) by this well-known pop icon and Eight Great Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Paintings will complete your study of Chicago art.

Chicago is the birthplace of the skyscraper, home to Art Deco and the work place of visionary architects ranging from Louis Sullivan to Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In the three credit portion, you will view forty modern architectural sights, read about the beginning of skyscrapers, study the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright then write a short research paper on a Chicago architect of your choice.

Through insightful texts and onsite visits to Hemingway’s home and museum in his hometown of Oak Park, IL, you will experience a short version of getting to know this revered American author. The Young Hemingway is a nonfiction book taking a look at the young writer’s life in Oak Park and Chicago before and after his time in the war, as well as an introduction to many of Hemingway’s book characters and their traits.

This course acquaints you with the Amalfi Coast of Italy. In the at-home study portion, you will see photos of unmatched beauty, plus visits to Pompeii, Sorrento, Positano and other places you have only dreamed of, including the Isle of Capri and the famed Blue Grotto. The one-credit portion requires a visit to Pompeii to personally experience the site of a fantastic volcanic eruption that buried that city in 79 A.D. and a civilization that rivals today in luxuries and innovations.

In this course, you will become familiar with its rich whaling era as well as its warlike and fascinating history of powerful kings and their conquests. In addition, since Maui is so intimately tied to the sea, you will experience its vast oceanographic significance by visiting an ocean center that rivals any aquarium on the mainland.
