Chicago: Its History in Architecture

Description

Chicago is the birthplace of the skyscraper, home to Art Deco and the work place of visionary architects ranging from Louis Sullivan to Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In the three credit portion, you will view forty modern architectural sights, read about the beginning of skyscrapers, study the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright then write a short research paper on a Chicago architect of your choice. The one credit onsite visits includes the world’s tallest office building and a tour by foot, bus or boat to personally view many of the buildings in The Pocket Guide to Chicago Architecture.

This is a non-classroom, self-directed, independent study courses, which may include DVDs, CDs, audio/video tapes or other materials and assignments to be returned by mail. Some traditional courses are all home study, others require visits to various locations in the area being studied, and some offer a choice of both. You may earn between one and four semester hours of credit for a Traditional Course, depending on the course you choose.
