Description:
A TRADITIONAL COURSE,
All home study. Ever wonder what it would be like to
communicate with another species of animal and know what they are feeling
or thinking, or how they look at the world? In this course, you’ll
meet Koko, a 37-year-old gorilla who can communicate with humans through
American Sign Language. You watch as Koko jokes, laughs, is stubborn,
insults her trainer, and in general acts like a complete human being.
Koko has 1,000 ALS signs and understands more than 2,000 English words.
Your students will fall in love with her.
Course Outline:
Complete the required reading, viewing and project assignments using the
instructor’s guidelines and question formats. A minimum of 45 hours
of work is required to receive three semester hours of professional development
credit for this course.
Evaluation:
Course work will be evaluated by how closely the assignments adhere to
the formats and topics assigned; as well as accuracy, originality and
creativity, thoroughness and critical thinking skills.
This
course was developed for CSUMB with the full cooperation and assistance
of the Gorilla Foundation. For more information about and/or to support
